How do I setup i>Clicker with Sakai?

Download the application

Download the application from OIRT (not from iClicker).  Our version of the application has been changed integrate with Sakai. Links for Mac and Windows are listed below; clicking the link will download a zip file to your computer:

Unzip the file

For Windows, right-click on the zip file and select "Extract All".  Choose a location where you want the folder to be saved.

For Mac, double-clicking on the zip file will automatically extract the folder and save it to the same location.

**NOTE: If you intend to use the podium computer in a classroom, please make sure to save the UNZIPPED folder on a USB drive that you can take with you.  All session data will be saved in the iClicker folders.  If you intend to use your own computer, then it is fine to leave the iclicker folder saved to your hard drive.

Within the iclicker folder there are multiple files.  Locate the iclicker.exe or iclicker.app file and double-click to run

Create a Course

Click on "+ Create" to add a new course

Enter course name

Enter a name for the course.  The course name does not need to be exactly as it appears in Sakai.  Click "Create"

Settings

Click on the course in the list, then click "Settings".  Within the settings, you will be able to change the base station frequency, link to your Sakai Course site, and set default point values

General Tab

  1. Course Name: Change course name at any time
  2. Instructor Remote ID: If you have an iClicker Instructor device (it is blue), you may enter the remote code
  3. Frequency code: The default base station frequency is AA.  If you suspect another instructor is using iClicker near by, you can change the frequency code to a different letter combination. Be sure to tell the students
 to change it on their remotes
  4. Choose Language: The default language is set to English

Gradebook Tab

This version of the iclicker software is already set to integrate with Sakai; you DO NOT need to enter anything in the "Server URL" field.  Click "Select Course"

Log into Sakai

Use your netID and password to log in.  You may choose to save your credentials to eliminate this step in the future.  Click "Log In".  

NOTE: It is important that your Sakai site be Published before going to the next step in this process.  If your site is still in draft mode (aka Unpublished), iClicker will not display it as a possible course to link with.  If you like, you can Publish your site, finish setting it up with iClicker and then Unpublish until you're ready for the course to launch.

Select the desired course

All of your Sakai sites will be listed by the siteID (the long string of letters and numbers) followed by the site name.  Select the appropriate course from the list, then click "Select"

Remember to click "Save" to finalize changes
